ICE: Astronaut's handbook

This handbook has travelled to Mars and back, being part of the ICE's first manned mission to the Red Planet. It contains information on astronaut requirements, the space treaty and mission patch designs.

DOG&PONY PRESENTATION

Before graduating, the entire graphic design class of 2016 had to present their themes and sketches in the legendary Dog & Pony show. The show was held in the auditorium at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague and was open to anyone interested. As a continuation on my thesis subject, I decided to look into the possibility of the first humans living on Mars.

How does the scale of a circle affect the interpretation of it? This publication contains photographs of my visual research into the exciting world of circles. By playing with perspective, surface, scale and contrast I wanted to see how far I could stretch the limits and fool the eye when it comes to this simple closed shape.

Spring Festival Royal Conservatory

For the 2015 Spring Festival of the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague I was asked to design a visual identity. As the Festival was once initiated by the late Dick Raaijmakers, I chose to approach the design in the same manner as he approached some of his music pieces; by cutting and pasting directly into the materials he worked with.

Website for my bachelor thesis on communication with extraterrestrial lifeforms, in which I tried to find and answer to the question:
"In the hypothetical case of contact with an extraterrestrial life-form, what will the design of our way of communication look like, and what will it say about humankind?" The publication is a direct print from the website.

MYSTERY TOUR

Poster design for a theater festival with performances throughout the city center of Goes.

SCREEN FONTS

A photographic look into the world of screen fonts. As such, I have photographed 10 typefaces in use on different screens and a beamer. Restrictions for the production of the publication were that it was to be printed black and white, one-sided on regular, A4 copy paper.

GRAS KENNISBOOST

During my internship at studio de Ronners, I made an illustration and animation for the GRAS Kennisboost, an anual symposium on architecture.

EUROPEAN GRAPHIC DESIGN FESTIVAL

Logo proposal for the European Graphic Design festival. Set in the Hague, this festival would be a framework in which European Graphic Designers could show their work and be inspired by the work of others. With this idea in mind, I created a logo that consists out of a repetitive framework that has alternative ways of being built up in a set of animations.

GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER

An attempt at dealing with the alleged addiction to information that we are growing accustomed to. Is there any message to be read in the fragmented pieces of information we receive on a daily basis? The project first prize at the Augmented Reality Pop-up show at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague.

UNMAPPING

A wooden board that shows its contents when heated, by using thermochromic paint. This way, body heat can be used to unveil words hidden underneath a painted map of Chaumont. Completing one of the coordinate cards creates a directional message, encouraging the user to explore Chaumont individually and unencumbered by a definite goal.
The installation was selected to be presented at the student exhibition during the Chaumont Graphic Design Festival

CHREOLE

A multidisciplinary collaboration together with Christina Yarashevich and Lisa van den Heuvel in an attempt to combine historic cultural imagery with digital techniques. Using cultural related imagery, self-recorded audio samples and a 3d-scanning technique we created an audiovisual experience that cumulated in a performance during the “We Are The Band” performance night, organised by our teacher Job Wouters together with Eddie The Eagle Museum.

IN TERMS WE TRUST

A collection of terms that find their origin in new technologies, the internet being one of the most apparent of them. Most of these words are created out of two or more already existing words; a synthesis of language used to convey meanings that didn't have a way to communicate them yet. The design of the book is inspired by chemistry, where multiple compounds can be used to form a new one.

KUNSTFORMEN DER FUNCTION()

Nature and technology are often considered to be two seperate worlds. To show the nature of technology and the technology of nature, I created a series of forms generated by mathematics and HTML code, Inspired by Ernst Haeckel's 'Kunstformen der Natur'
